Docs · Domains
Put your app on your own domain.
To add a custom domain on Runex, create a CNAME record from your hostname to cname.runex.cloud, then attach the domain to your app in the dashboard. Runex issues the HTTPS certificate automatically.
- One CNAME record
- HTTPS issued for you
- Subdomains and apex
Type CNAME Name app Value cname.runex.cloud TTL 300 # app.example.com → your Runex app
Definition
What's the difference between the platform URL and a custom domain?
The platform URL comes with every app; a custom domain is one you own and point at it.
| Platform URL | Custom domain | |
|---|---|---|
| Example | https://acme.runex.cloud | https://app.acme.com |
| DNS you manage | None | A CNAME record |
| HTTPS | On from the first deploy | Issued after DNS resolves |
| Good for | Testing, internal tools | Production and client apps |
Steps
How do you add a custom domain to a Runex app?
Four steps: deploy, add the record, attach, verify.
- Deploy the app so it's live on *.runex.cloud.
- At your DNS provider, add a CNAME from your hostname (for example app) to cname.runex.cloud.
- In the Runex dashboard, add app.example.com to the app.
- Wait for DNS to update. Runex issues HTTPS, and https://app.example.com serves your app.
Apex
How do you use a root domain like example.com?
Use your DNS provider's ALIAS, ANAME, or CNAME flattening, pointed at cname.runex.cloud.
The apex (or root) domain is the bare name without a subdomain, like example.com. DNS rules don't allow a normal CNAME there.
Many providers offer a workaround record type (ALIAS, ANAME, or CNAME flattening) that behaves like a CNAME at the apex. If yours doesn't, use www.example.com and redirect the apex to it at your provider.
FAQ
Custom domain questions
DNS, HTTPS, and timing.
What CNAME value do I use for Runex?
Point the CNAME for your hostname to cname.runex.cloud, exactly as written, then attach the hostname to your app in the dashboard.
How long does a custom domain take to work?
Usually minutes, but DNS changes can take up to your record's TTL or longer to spread. HTTPS is issued once the record resolves.
Do I have to buy an SSL certificate for my domain?
No. Runex issues and renews the HTTPS certificate for every custom domain you attach.
Can I add several domains to one app?
Yes. Attach each hostname in the dashboard and create a CNAME for each one to cname.runex.cloud.
